It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the Joint Congress of the Spanish Society for Surgery of the Hand (SECMA) and the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH), an unprecedented event taking place from 23rd to 25th April 2025 in Palma de Mallorca. This congress marks a historic moment for our speciality, bringing together two prestigious societies in a unique collaboration that promises to set a new standard in the international hand surgery community.
Over the course of three days, surgeons, therapists, and other professionals dedicated to hand surgery from around the globe will gather to exchange knowledge, discuss innovations, and strengthen professional and personal connections. The scientific programme will cover key areas such as hand and wrist surgery, peripheral nerve repair, congenital hand conditions, and microsurgery, featuring roundtable discussions and presentations by renowned experts. A special highlight will be the tribute to Dr Marc Garcia-Elias, an iconic figure in our field, whose contributions have inspired generations of hand surgeons.
The congress will begin with a pre-congress session on 23rd April, offering practical courses at the University of the Balearic Islands’ Faculty of Medicine and the Son Espases University Hospital. These workshops will provide valuable opportunities to refine skills in key areas such as surgical techniques, ultrasound, and physical examination. The main sessions, on 24th and 25th April, will be held at the Palacio de Congresos in Palma, a modern and accessible venue with excellent facilities, located in a stunning setting overlooking the Mediterranean.
In addition to its scientific excellence, this event stands out for its interdisciplinary approach, including the annual Congress of the Spanish Society of Hand Therapists (AETEMA) and, for the second year running, the Congress of Surgical Nursing for Hand and Wrist. This breadth of participation reflects our shared vision of collaboration across disciplines to benefit patients.
Of course, the social events will also be a key part of the congress. With Palma de Mallorca as a backdrop, these occasions will allow participants to enjoy the beauty of the island while building meaningful connections in a relaxed and enriching environment.
We extend our deepest gratitude to all those who have made this congress possible, from the organizing and scientific committees to our industry partners, whose support is invaluable in bringing an event of this magnitude to life.
We warmly invite you to save the dates and join us for what promises to be an unforgettable experience. We are confident that Palma de Mallorca will provide the perfect setting to advance our shared mission: «to improve the quality of life for our patients through excellence in hand surgery».
We look forward to welcoming you in April 2025 for this landmark international event!
